MJIC “Kvartāls” welcomed us with a cozy and very calm atmosphere. I took part in the event “Latgolys dīna”, where musician Dainis Skutelis performed. He shared his thoughts about the importance of the Latgalian language in his life and also gave a glimpse into a musician’s everyday life. Dainis sang his favorite Latgalian song for us, which is especially meaningful to him because his father and grandfather taught it to him. At the end of the meeting, we all sang together. After his performance, I presented our website “Latgolas Lizeika”. I told the young people about the project and we explored it together – they really liked it. At the end of the event, I was interviewed by television. One of the questions was: “What from Dainis Skutelis’ words stayed with you the most?” I immediately remembered the moment when he was asked: “How did you realize you are Latgalian?” He answered: “It’s simply in my soul.”
This event was truly valuable and inspiring!
"Latgolas Lizeika" is a European Solidarity Corps Project. Its main goal is to promote the preservation and popularization of the Latgalian language and culture among young people by using digital tools and an interactive learning platform. We aim to create an innovative and accessible way for young people to explore Latgalian culture, language, and traditions while simultaneously developing their digital and creative skills.
